Meta\’s WhatsApp is back after global outage

For the second time in just over a month, Meta\’s apps, such as WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, had problems. It\’s unusual for big services like Meta\’s to have such issues. Meta\’s status page showed disruptions to important business services like Ads Manager and WhatsApp Business API. WhatsApp also acknowledged the problem on its X account, saying they were trying to fix it for everyone.

Users were having trouble accessing Instagram and Messenger, as reported on social media and sites like Downdetector. However, these reports don\’t officially confirm an outage, just suggest there might be one. Meta hasn\’t responded to press inquiries about the cause of the outages.

The biggest issue appeared to be with WhatsApp, although some users reported it was improving by the time of writing.

We tested Meta\’s apps ourselves and found them loading fine, and we could send messages via WhatsApp. This suggests the outages might not be global or they\’ve already been fixed.

Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram haven\’t publicly acknowledged any issues on their official accounts.

This isn\’t the first time Meta\’s apps have experienced significant outages this year.

In the United States on March 5, 2024, which was Super Tuesday, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads did not work for users. They got messages that said \”something went wrong\” or were sent to a page where they were not logged in and could not log back in.

This lasted for a couple of hours before the apps started working again. During this outage, Meta\’s status page also showed problems with products like Ads Manager.

After the issue was resolved, WhatsApp posted on their official account that it was fixed by 6:19 pm ET.
